Anti-Müllerian hormone as an indicator of hemi-castrated unilateral cryptorchid horses OAK
MURASE, Harutaka; SAITO, Shigeaki; AMAYA, Tomohiko; SATO, Fumio; BALL, Barry Allen; NAMBO, Yasuo.
Anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH), a glycoprotein secreted from the fetal testis, is responsible for regression of the Müllerian duct in the male fetus. The aim of this study was to evaluate the usefulness of serum AMH as a biomarker for diagnosis of cryptorchidism in horses. Serum AMH concentrations were measured in intact stallions, hemi-castrated unilateral cryptorchid stallions, and geldings. In addition, expression of AMH was characterized in cryptorchid testes by immunohistochemistry. Serum AMH was detected in intact stallions (n=11, 13.3 ± 1.8 ng/ml) and in hemi-castrated cryptorchid stallions (n=8, 17.6 ± 3.0 ng/ml), but not in geldings (n=6, all data were below the limit of detection). Immunolabeling for AMH was detected in Sertoli cells of undescended...

Single incision laparoscopic surgery (SILSTM) using an umbilical hernial approach for cryptorchidectomy of a degenerated testis in a dog Ciência Rural
Tiosso,Caio de Faria; Voorwald,Fabiana Azevedo; Brun,Maurício Veloso; Nakaghi,Luciana Cristina Padilha; Crivelaro,Roberta Martins; Apparicio,Maricy; Vicente,Wilter Ricardo Russiano.
ABSTRACT: SILSTM via an umbilical hernia opening was used in the correction of an abdominal cryptorchidism in a dog. The SILSTMport was inserted through a 2.5 cm skin incision on the umbilical hernia and pneumoperitoneum was established with CO2. A 10mm telescope, 5mm laparoscopic Babcock clamp, and a clamp with combined cutting and coagulation features were used for the dissection and removal of the testicle through the SILSTM port. The treatment proved to be effective, easy, and quick to perform. However, the lack of triangulation between clamps and telescope limited the movement of the instruments, making it more laborious than a multiple-trocar approach. It can be concluded that the use of a SILSTM port through a pre-existing opening of the abdominal...

Study of Undescended Testes by High Frequency Ultrasound International Journal of Morphology
Onkar,Deepali; Onkar,Prashant; Mitra,Kajal.
Undescended testes or cryptorchidism in the most common congenital anomaly of male reproductive system. The descent is multifactorial with gubernaculums playing major role. The failure of descent can be at trans-abdominal or inguino-scrotal phase. Locating undescended testes is important in view of low fertility and high rate of occurrence of neoplasm in them. Ultrasound is the standard imaging technique of choice in children with a non-palpable testis as it is non-invasive and does not use ionizing radiation. Position of testis is also important in deciding whether patient will need abdominal or inguinal exploration. The aim was to study the position of undescended testes by high frequency ultrasound and its embryonic explanation. Total 41 boys with...

Unilateral Cryptorchidism in Nigerian Sahel Bucks International Journal of Morphology
Igbokwe,I. O; Grema,H. A; Ikpo,A. E; Mshelbwala,F. M; Igbokwe,N. A.
Out of 1608 Nigerian Sahel male goats (bucks) examined for cryptorchidism in an abattoir, 9 (0.6%) had right unilateral cryptorchidism. The coat colour-specific prevalence was highest among the brown bucks (2.1%); and was 0.8%, 0.6%, and 0.3% among black, white, back-and-white bucks, respectively. The condition was not found among bucks with brown-and-black, brown-and-white, and multiple coat colours. The right and left testes of normal bucks and the descended testes of cryptorchid bucks had comparable gross testicular measurements, but the retained cryptorchid testes were smaller in size. The estimates of the testicular measurements showed that testicular weights (with the entire epididymes), peripheral longitudinal lengths and mid-circumferences of the...
